How to reset a blackberry Password?

I don't know any full proof technique of doing it but as I read many forums on internet related to this topic. It suggests that if we enter wrong password more than 10 times , our phone will go in master reset ( Memory will be wiped out including contacts in address book) . After that we can reset a new password in our phone. I am searching another way by which we can keep our data safe, for now If you have backup stored in your computer and or if you have contacts is stored in your Mobile sim card then you can use this type of password reset.
